Body Image therapy in Ontario
I offer body image therapy in Guelph and virtually across Ontario for adults who feel stuck in a difficult or critical relationship with their body. You might find yourself constantly thinking about how you look, comparing yourself to others, or feeling uncomfortable in your body in ways that are hard to explain. If this resonates, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out on your own.
What is body image (and why it can feel so hard)
Body image isn’t just about how you look—it’s about how you experience yourself in your body. For many people, this relationship has been shaped over time by family dynamics, cultural messages, and experiences of being seen (or not seen) in certain ways.
You might notice that your thoughts about your body feel constant, or that your mood shifts depending on how you feel about your appearance that day. These patterns can feel exhausting and consuming—and they often develop for very understandable reasons.
How body image struggles show up
Body image concerns can show up in subtle and not-so-subtle ways, such as:
- A harsh or critical inner voice about your appearance
- Comparing your body to others
- Avoiding photos, social situations, or intimacy
- Feeling anxious about how you’re perceived
- Your sense of worth feeling tied to your body
- Feeling disconnected or uncomfortable in your body
Even if others don’t see it, this kind of internal experience can take up a lot of space.
How therapy can help with body image
In therapy, we begin by slowing things down and getting curious about your experience, rather than trying to immediately change it. Together, we’ll explore how your relationship with your body developed and what continues to keep these patterns in place.
Over time, this work can help you relate to yourself with more understanding and less criticism, and begin to feel a bit more at home in your body.
My approach
My work is grounded in a weight-inclusive, anti-diet, HAES®-aligned approach. Rather than focusing on changing your body, we focus on changing your relationship with it.
I draw from relational therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and mindfulness-based approaches. This might include exploring different “parts” of you (like the critical voice or the part that feels shame), understanding how they developed, and finding new ways to relate to them.
This isn’t about forcing yourself to feel confident or positive—it’s about creating space for something more compassionate and sustainable to emerge.
